PRIDE is an extralegal, non-government military organization primarily based within the nation of Kartz, in the eastern quadrant of the galaxy. Essentially a private millitary company, PRIDE operates not in the pursuit of profit but instead in fulfillment of the goal given to it by its founder: Protect Innocence. As such, PRIDE conducts regular military operations, termed Interventions, to protect civilians and noncombatants in war zones, as well as protecting sentient life throughout the galaxy from slavery, oppression, genocide and exploitation. Due to its noble ideals, PRIDE has its choice of the most impassioned and determined recruits to create its military units with; this often leads to regular military forces atrophying after a planet is fully declared to be under the protection of PRIDE. With so many planets under its protection, PRIDE represents one of the strongest military forces known to exist, which allows it to enforce its judgments against those who would harm the galaxy's innocents.

PRIDE has been criticized, however. Despite not officially allowing children to join, fighters as young as sixteen are seen in its ranks, being enamored with the ideals of PRIDE. PRIDE also regularly violates and threatens the sovereignty of the nations it performs interventions in, as under its own legal system it does not require permission to enter the territory of a state if innocent lives are confirmed to be at risk. PRIDE's military technology is also, as a rule, much more advanced than that of the states it intervenes in, leading to greater amounts of combatant casualties than there would be if PRIDE had never intervened, whilst civilian casualties might never have occured in the first place. PRIDE does not draw a distinction between freedom fighters and terrorists; they will attack anyone who targets civilian settlements, or attempts to use them as human shields. Critics often accuse PRIDE of being no better than the groups and organizations it fights, using a self-appointed position of moral righteousness as a justification for expanding its imperialist grasp on the galaxy.

Critics have also focused on the elusive Special Duty Corps RISEN, which is the special operations group of PRIDE. Their actions are often officially denied, despite the policy of honesty present in the constitution of PRIDE. In addition, rumors have surfaced that RISEN is not held to the prime directive of protecting innocence, and has on many occasions deliberately killed noncombatants.
